Department of Home Science
The department of Home Science, a unique constituent of Nirmalagiri College was established in 1964. Nirmalagiri is the only college that offers degree course in Home Science under Kannur University. The department of Home Science, since its inception has been instrumental for the empowerment and upliftment of a large section of female students of this region. The department offers degree course in Home Science with particular stress on areas like Food Science& Nutrition, Textile Science and Fashion Designing, Family Resource Management, Psychology etc and subsidiaries like Chemistry and Zoology.We have department library with precious books and journals and well equipped laboratory. Diet counseling centre and Friday Canteen are other highlights of the department.
Add on courses
Novel Arts
In the year 2004, the Department instituted an ‘Add on Certificate Course in Novel Arts’ having a duration of six months wherein regular students could train themselves in different paintings like ceramic work, glass painting , Icing on Canvas and the like
Beautician Course
A six months Beautician Course was conducted in 2005-’06 whereby students from within and from outside were trained in various skills of the trade.
The intent and purpose of the course were to enhance the employability of our wards in the grossly competitive job environment. Organization of similar courses in the coming year is in the pipeline
